A note from the Art teachers:
Caraway Parents, Families and Friends,

Please mark your calendars with our upcoming Family Art Night, on Thursday, December 15, 6:30 - 7:30 PM. We will have art materials available for your use, and sample gift ideas for you to look at while you enjoy some creative, family time together, and make a work of art.

This year's sample idea is a personalized Family Book that may include a page made by and perhaps about each of you. Of course you may always turn the idea into your own creation, and have us "OOHHing and AHHWWing"

We hope you join us, it'll be FUN!!!

In Reading Workshop we are working on thinking about what our brain does as we read. We discussed how our brain plays a movie or shows us "photos" of what we are reading. It's called Envisioning what we read. The strategies we learn this week will help us comprehend what we are reading.

In Writer's Workshop we are learning about Procedural Texts. A procedural text is a piece of writing that tells us how to do something. The most common form of procedural text is a recipe. The students will be writing procedural texts this week!

In Word Work this week the Red Group is working on the Long a vs. Short a, spelled CVVC- ai, ao, ee, ea. The Blue group is working on blends; sl,bl,pl. The Green Group is working on diagraphs; s, sh and ch.

In Math we are beginning a new unit on patterns. We will explore shape patterns, letter patterns and begin working with number patterns.

In Social Studies this week we are learning about the parts of a map. Today we read a story called The Zoo Map. We learned about the compass rose and a map key or legend. The students made their own zoo maps with a compass rose and a map key.

Have a great week!

Mrs. Caballero
