Ms. Nunez begins her total teach this week. This means she is responsible for teaching all subjects. I will be working with small groups and individuals in order to support her. She is doing a fabulous job teaching. She has so many great ideas for getting the students engaged in learning!

In Reading Workshop this week the students are learning more strategies for comprehension. These will center around characteristics of strong readers. The strategies help the students build confidence in their reading ability and help them track their understanding.

In Writer's Workshop we are returning to writing small moments. Ms. Nunez reviewed what a small moment is with the students and they began thinking about a story they could write that has a lot of detail and spans a short period of time. We will share in Author's chair this week and bring new stories home next week. In the Tue day folders this week you will find finished and unfinished writing from our writing folders. I explained to the students that writer's need to clean our their folders even if they are not done with a story. Author's don't always publish or finish everything they write. I paper clipped finished and unfinished stories.

In Word Study this week the students in the Red group are working with the short e and long e sounds. They will sort them into four different categories, short e (spelled e CVC and ea CVVC) and long e (spelled ea CVVC and ee CVVC). The Blue group is working on blends p,l and pl. The Green group is working on diagraphs c, h and ch.

In Math this week we are continuing our learning about addition and subtraction facts. We will learn to add to make 5 and add to make a 10. We will practice with basic facts and problem solving activities!

In Social Studies this week we will begin our unit on Maps and Globes. We will learn about cardinal directions and how to read a map. At the end of the week the students will make a map of their bedroom.

Look for the Pilgrim Doll Project Note in the Tuesday folder this week!!

Have a great week!
Mrs. Caballero
