This week in Reader's Workshop we are learning about how to be an interactive readers. We will discuss ways to talk back the the text, noticing the feelings reading gives us and keeping track of our thoughts by using sticky notes as we read.

In Word Work the students in the red group are working on long vs. short vowels in different patterns (Consonant-Vowel-Consonant (CVC), Consonant-Vowel-Vowel-Consonant (CVVC) and Consonant-Vowel-Consonant-silent e (CVCe)). The blue group is working on s blends such as sc, sw and sn. The green group is beginning diagraphs, s, h and sh.

In Writer's Workshop we are finishing our last week of poetry. The students have been learning about poetry. Ms. Nunez and the students have come up with clever ways to learn and remember elements of poetry. They made up a song called the Poetry Cha-Cha. Ask your child to sing it for you!

In Math we are learning basic facts for addition and subtraction. The students will practice their math facts and learn ways to "stick them to their brain". We will incorporate problem solving activities with challenging elements to practice addition and subtraction using basic facts as a stepping stone.

In Social Studies this week the students will wrap up their unit on Texas. They've learned and practiced the Texas Pledge, they've learned about our state symbols and made a corral outside our classroom with our state animals!

Have a great week! I can't believe it's already November!
