This week in First grade...

January 3-6

Welcome back! My family and I traveled, by car, to Phoenix to visit my brother and his family. It was great to have all three of my parent's granddaughters together for Christmas. The day after Christmas my 7 month old was diagnosed with Pneumonia. Never a dull moment in the Caballero house! We hope you had a relaxing and enjoyable break! Happy New Year!

Reminders:
Jan. 3 School resumes
Jan. 31, 2012 Science Fair

Tuesday Folder Mom: Gina Johnston

This week in Reading Workshop...
We will begin our unit on Fairy Tales! It's such a fun unit where we learn about the elements of a Fairy Tale. We read different fairy tales and talk about what makes each on special. We compare and contrast different versions of the same fairy tale. At the end of our unit we will have a Fairy Tale Parade where we all dress up as our favorite fairy tale character and parade around the school. Start brainstorming with your child the character they would like to be!

This week in Word Work...
We will be reviewing different sorts that we completed before the break. We will focus on spelling the words we have learned correctly in all of our writing.

This week in Writer's Workshop...
Today we wrote about our New Years Eve/ New Years Day festivities and thought of one goal we have for the new year. Come on by our classroom and read our writing that is hanging in the hall.

This week in Math...
We are compairing and ordering numbers to 99. Today we played games or talk about greater than and less than. We will transfer our knowledge about compairing numbers to problem solving next week.

This week in Science...
We will begin a unit on Energy. We will examine different types of energy, how we use energy and how the earth uses energy.

Get plenty of rest this week!
Mrs. Caballero
