This week in Reading Workshop...
We are continuing our learning about what Strong Readers do! Today I introduced the concept of using the cover and title to make predictions about stories. We also discussed looking at the pictures before we read to help us understand what we will read.
Take home readers will come home this week for the yellow, blue and green groups. Your child will have two different books this week. The red group got their menu on Friday and will self-select their at home reading material.

This week in Writing workshop...
We learned that all of the things we've been practicing for the past couple of weeks come together and make up the writing process. We made a chart and will use it to track our progress on our writing. We will begin discussing Small Moments and how we can write a lot about a small moment in time.

In Word Study...
We are practicing our sounds. Red group is working on the final /k/ sound and how it is spelled 3 different ways depending on what kind of vowel is present. The Blue group is working on sh, ch, th and wh. These sounds are consonant clusters. The letters together make one sound. The green group is working on -et, -eg and -en. They are focusing on words in these families with the emphasis on the short /e/ sound.

In Math...
We are learning about place value and discussing larger numbers. Ms. Nunez has planned fabulous, hands on and engaging lessons to teach the students about numbers! We will use the manipulatives to build numbers and represent numbers with concrete models. These skills help us get ready for addition and subtraction.

**The Math Notebook will come home tomorrow so that you, as parents, can look over their work. Your homework will be to fill out the "Give me Five" sheet that will come home with it. Please return the notebook with the "Give me Five" sheet on Wednesday.

In Science...
We will begin our unit on Matter and Energy. Today Ms. Nunez taught a lesson about properties. The students recorded their thoughts about properties in their science notebook.

Have a great week!
Mrs. Caballero

P.S. Thank you Mr. Score for coming on Monday to be a Computer Lab Dad! We practiced logging on and off. We will begin working on typing and getting familiar with saving on the server!
