This week in Reading Workshop we will get back into the groove of Take Home Readers. Each child has a new bag to bring their books back and forth in. I will begin mid-year Reading assessments in a couple of weeks.

In Writer's Workshop we will review writing about small moments for the next two weeks before we move on to our next unit.

In Word Work this week our sound is the (oa) sound. The (oa) sound in a one syllable word is spelled oa as in boat.

Spelling Words: loaf, boat, soap, float, toad, road
Challenge Words: snowman, folktale
Sight word Vocabulary: old, boy, could, red, here

In math this week we will begin our unit on Money. The students are expected to identify each type of coin and know it's value. We will take a pre-assessment and each student will be in a group according to their knowledge of money. Each teacher in first grade will take a group of students to work with. Our unit will span two weeks. Review coin names and values at home!

In Science this week we will continue our unit on Matter and Energy from the previous nine weeks. We will discuss how energy (heat) can change an object. We will do hands on experiments to help us see the changes.

Have a great week!
Mrs. Caballero
