This week in First grade...

January 23-27

We loved seeing all of our students how participated in the Science Fair.  We took a little time to have them share their project with us! I am so proud of their hard work! Thanks, Parents, for supporting your kids!

Just a reminder, it's a good time to check your kids for head lice.  We've been back together for a couple of weeks.  It's a good idea to check them periodically.  Especially in the winter months when we are bring coats to school!

Reminders:
Monday (1/23):  Reading Homework will come home.
This week there will not be a TIC TAC TOE. We are going to send a mini book

Tuesday (1/24): Library Lesson.  No class check out this week
*If your child would like to check out new books they can return theirs and I can send
                          them at another time.

Friday (1/27): Return Reading Homework

Looking Forward:
Tuesday, February 7th is our 1st grade PE Program
The students have starting working on their "routine" and they are having a great time! I can't wait to see them preform!

This week in Reading and Writing Workshop...
For the next couple of weeks we will combine our reading and writing workshops as we learn about Research.  We will become researchers and explore books that will help us learn about a topic as we create our own books or presentations about the topic of our choice.  This week we will review features of nonfiction and explore how nonfiction books are written.  We will make a list of things we are interested in and narrow it down as we choose a topic to learn about.  As a class we will choose a class topic and create a way to share our learning.

This week in Math...
We will continue to work with numbers up to 99 as we explore more about Place Value.  We will compare numbers using words and symbols.  We will talk about how a hundreds chart helps us find 10 more and 10 less than a number.  We will also solve problems as we use the new skills we are learning.

This week in Social Studies...
We are thinking like Geographers as we explore landforms! We will discuss the types of landforms on our continent and see real life pictures of the landforms.  We will record our learning so we can share it with our family at home.

Have a great week!
