In Reading Workshop…
The genre for reading workshop is non-fiction this week. The mini-lessons that will be taught this week include: Listing the characteristics of non-fiction, finding out what to do before, during and after reading non-fiction.
In Writer’s Workshop…
This week we will start writing expository “All-About Books”. We will start off the unit looking at other published books and learning about the characteristics of All-About Books. Next we will explore the structure of All-About Books: How to pick a topic, anticipating the chapters needed to write, and drafting a Table of Contents. If time, we will work on planning each chapter and choosing the different types of writer’s workshop paper needed for each chapter.

Math:
Monday and Tuesday-Chocolate Fever Day Activities.
Beginning on Wednesday, we will focus on Count On 0 strategies. This seems simple to adults, but many students find it difficult to comprehend what zero means. As we explore different situations where zero is used, we will also include the Count On 1, 2 and 3 strategies that have already been covered as a re-teach to get ready for our next unit on doubles.

Science:
This week we will learn about natural resources such as rocks, soil and water. Lessons will be taught on: How can rocks, soil, and water be useful? What are the “secret sources” that products are made from?

Happy Valentine's Day!
