This week in First grade...
April 11th- 15th Reminders... **If your child is sick (symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, sore throat or vomiting) the Caraway policy states the students must be symptom free, without medication, for 24 hours before returning to school. This will prevent the spread of germs and sickness to other children and the adults in our classroom. Tuesday parent: Elizabeth Pooler Tuesday folders: April 13th- Family night at California Pizza Kitchen April 22nd - No School April 25th-28th TAKS- No Parents in the Building May 4th - Family Night at Catfish Parlour This week in Reading Workshop we are focusing on Nouns and Verbs. We will learn about each one then we will look for them while we read. This week in Writer's Workshop we will be learning to write creative (imagination) stories. We will talk about elements of creative writing and how we can make our stories interesting to the reader. In Word Work this week we are learning to spell words with R-blends. pr- tr- dr- Regular words: prize, prom, trap, drip, drive, truck Enrichment words: pretzel, pretend, dragon, drizzle, tractor, triangle Challenge words: biography, probability Sight word vocabulary: many, mom, other, put, than In Math this week we are continuing our unit on Probability. We will discuss the chances of having one things over another (What are the chances of getting a red skittle if there are only 2 red ones out of 20?) We will learn how to make a tally chart and graph our results in a bar graph. In Social Studies this week we will be learning about famous people and how they contributed to our state and nation.
